The department of Pre-University Education has made special arrangement to raise students’ interest towards science course. PU education department is teaching science lessons through Doordarshan Chandana channel, which has already been started since 16th April, 2012. This special science programme will continue till 14th July, 2012 on the mentioned television channel. The time of telecast is between 7 AM to 7:45 AM.
The science lessons are being telecast through Doordarshan channel and as such, there is no need of cable connection required so to watch this specific programme. PU Commisioner, Rashmi said, “"The programme will help rural students and those in Kannada medium to take up Science. In cities, it will equip students to rely on classroom learning and break the myth that Science education needs tuitions. It will make Science education inexpensive,"
The main aim behind introducing this television programme is to help students revise the important concept of science, which are taught in the high schools. This bridge curriculum was made to introduce the new concepts of science before the students who are undertaking state syllabus. Sources said that, those concepts had already been learnt by the CBSE students in the CBSE affiliated high schools. Also, the idea of introducing science lessons through televisions is likely to be beneficial for departments introducing NCERT textbooks in PUC from next year.
